Former Clinton administration climate aide Paul Bledsoe said Obama should directly tout the domestic economic benefit of the shale gas production boom to address potentially increasing LNG, coal and other energy exports that environmentalists fear would shift greenhouse gas emissions abroad to developing countries. “The emergence of international fossil fuel markets beyond oil now into natural gas and coal is a challenge to the U.S. climate policy that the administration has not yet reckoned with,” Bledsoe said.
